Voluntary Counselling and Testing

Testing and discussion about the
possibility of HIV infection is potentially stressful and difficult, and
strict confidentiality is needed. In a country like PNG, it is
appropriate to test not just people who may have symptoms of HIV/AIDS,
but also pregnant women, patients with tuberculosis, and some others.
VCT - Voluntary Counselling and
Testing – where the patient is counselled before the test for HIV, has
the opportunity to accept or decline to be tested, and then is given
counselling after the test. We conduct VCT at the two clinics where we
have sexual health services – Nine Mile and Lawes Road.
