Helivim Bilong Yumi Progrsm (HBYP)

The Helvim
Bilong Yumi Project (HBYP) i.e.
"Our Help" (in English) was established in 2005 implemented by
HOPE worldwide (PNG) and
supported by Family Health International (FHI). HBYP aims at increasing
knowledge about HIV and STI; and decreasing risky behaviors among the
most-at- risk population. The project offers sexually transmitted
illnesses (STI) syndromic management, HIV counseling & testing,
anti-retroviral treatment (ART) adherence counseling and laboratory
services through two government’s Clinics at Nine Mile and Lawes road in
the National Capital District. Access to clinical services is improved
through intensive outreach work in 14 sites around these two clinics by
a cadre of trained outreach volunteers. These outreach volunteers
encourage safe sexual practices, correct and consistent condom use
through peer education, and referral of clients, especially female sex
workers, men who have sex with men, male sex workers, and other high
risk women and men to STI clinics and other health services.
HBYP
project also promotes meaningful participation of people living with HIV
& AIDS using the "Greater Involvement of People with HIV/AIDS" (GIPA)
approach by involving them in service provision as case management team
members and outreach volunteers to work with the most at risk
populations.
