Anti-Retroviral Treatment Training
ART is anti-retroviral treatment – specific
medications that target the HIV virus. If taken regularly, and
significant side-effects do not occur, ART can stop HIV in its tracks,
and often dramatically improve the health of the infected person.
However, a combination of drugs must be taken day in day out, and the
patient must be closely monitored.
HOPE
worldwide (PNG) staff
administer ART treatment at the Nine Mile and Lawes Road clinics, and as
part of the Department of Health strategy to roll out HIV therapy
throughout PNG, we conduct workshops around the country training
community volunteers to administer and support people receiving ART.
This work is overseen and funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS,
Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).
