HIV / AIDS
PNG has the most serious HIV/AIDS epidemic in the
Pacific region, which prevalence rates around 2% and rising. Many Papua
New Guineans have already died of AIDS, and many more have HIV but are
yet undiagnosed. Awareness and education is crucial so that the spread
of infection can be slowed and eventually stopped. Specific treatment of
HIV is now available, and support services for people with HIV/AIDS are
increasing. HOPE worldwide
