Book Drive

Every year in Sydney Australia, HOPE
worldwide (Australia) conducts
a book drive to support the
School Library
Program in Papua New Guinea. Books are donated from book fairs
and the general community, with the major collection in November, when
over 200 schools each year donate surplus books from their school
libraries. Many students also bring in books from home. In addition,
excess NSW School Magazines (32-page booklets in four reading ages) are
donated by the NSW Department of Education and Training. The Book Drive
is done in partnership with the Professional Centre of Australia.
Each year over 250,000
books are collected and sent to PNG –around eight twenty-foot shipping
containers. These are distributed to over 200 schools each year. Various
companies generously assist in-kind with the Book Drive, including Swire
Shipping, TNT, VisyBoard, Qualtape, and Cherrybrook Removals. Funding
comes from NZAID, with extra support in Australia from ANZ and Nestlé.
