Vanilla, Rice and Ducks

This program helps farmers in the
Hiri and Rigo districts of Central Province. Vanilla grows well in PNG,
and there is a strong international market, but it requires expert
farming care to produce a saleable crop. Rice is a staple food, and yet
most of the rice consumed in PNG is imported. Dry-rice cultivation
using suitable strains provides both food security for the farmer, and
some income from sale of surplus production.
This program is funded by
The Charitable Foundation. We are also grateful for technical support
provided by NARI (PNG’s National Agricultural Research Institute).
